Assignments

Assignments are given to students to continue learning, assess and improve understanding and measure attainment.  Students are required to submit both formative and summative assignments by the due date.

Documentation will be made on Progress Reports and Report Cards.

If the student does not submit formative or summative work on time there will be an escalating scale of consequences.

First offense: teacher will give warning and may assign a 0 grade

or develop a contract with the student to complete work;  if work

is not completed a 0 grade will be assigned

• Students may be assigned Mandatory Study Hall after school

• Students may be withdrawn from After School Activities until

work is  completed. If work is still incomplete a 0 grade will be

  awarded.

• If there are repeated offenses teacher will notify Administration

and parents will be contacted by email.

• Regular and repeated instances of student not meeting

expectations  will result in no credit being awarded for that course

as well as other  disciplinary action.

ATTENDANCE

IQ International School  believes that regular and consistent attendance is very important in a student’s learning.

IQ International School will only allow a cumulative 3 week (15 teaching days) absence in one academic year to a student.  Students are to submit a doctor’s note if they miss school due to illness.  Make up tests/assignments will only be allowed with a doctor’s note.

Please note that IQ International School is not responsible for giving students opportunities to make up missed tests and/or assignments.  Any make up work/tests/assignments will be granted at the teacher’s discretion in consultation with Principal.  Attendance and class participation account for 10% of the total marks.  For any absence, IQ Internationl School reserves the right to administer assessments to gauge student attainment of missed curriculum in order to determine if they pass the subjects and receive a credit.

Excessive tardiness will also be an important factor in assessment and evaluation.   It is a parental responsibility to ensure students are at school on time.   Students who are tardy on a regular basis will face disciplinary action.

IQ International School retains the right to dismiss a student whose learning is seriously jeopardized by tardiness

HOMEWORK

Elementary

Homework is an important part of the educational process; however, we believe that homework is not necessarily the most important thing students should be doing after school. Our hope is that students are encouraged to pursue other interests and are allowed to play, socialize with their friends, and just be kids!

Vacation Homework

Occasionally, family emergencies and other circumstances require students to be away from school for an extended period of time.  Unfortunately, much of what teachers do in class cannot be duplicated at home.  Conversations and instruction cannot be recreated, and hands-on, collaborative activities can only be conducted in the context of the classroom.

Secondary School Homework

Grades 6 To 12

Homework is to be assigned daily.  In Grade 6- 11 students should have minimum of one and one half hours of work.

In all areas where work is sent home, the teacher should feel confident that the child is able to complete the assignment successfully.  Some pupils will require more time to do homework assignments than others depending upon attention span, interest and speed of learning.  Homework should review, reinforce or enrich.  It should be a work that child can do without parent intervention.  When homework is not completed a note should be sent home to inform the child’s parents, or notation made in the homework book with a parent signature required.

Homework Buddy

Each child, Grade 3 and up, must have a designated homework buddy to collect work and keep a record when the buddy is absent.  She/he is responsible for contacting and helping their buddy with the work missed as much as she/he is able.  The teacher and parent are expected to help as needed.

Assessment and Evaluation

IQ International School believes in the critical importance of providing effective feedback to students and parents on the student’s learning and achievement through several reports cards.   There will also be external testing conducted.

We believe it is the parents’ responsibility to ensure that they review their child’s progress on a regular basis.
